This page provides information concerning VirtualBox HardDrive (VBHD)

1 Download

1.1 Via http

  1. VBHD can be downloaded from this location: http://www.geist.agh.edu.pl/hadesvb/Debian-Hades.vdi.
  2. In order to verify, if the VBHD is downloaded correctly check their md5 sum using http://www.geist.agh.edu.pl/hadesvb/Debian-Hades.vdi.md5 file:

1.2 From pendrive

  1. Insert pendrive into free USB slot in your PC.
  2. The disk should be detected and mounted automatically.
  3. When new drive is not appearing try to mount it manually:
    • For drive with ext3-based file system:
      mount -t ext3 <dev> <mountpoint>
    • For drive with ntfs-based file system:
      mount -t ntfs-3g <dev> <mountpoint>

      or

      ntfs-3g <dev> <mountpoint>
  4. Copy Debian-Hades.vdi on your PC.

2 VBHD installation (for VB v. 3.2.10)

The second step is the installation of the downloaded VBHD in your VirtualBox:

  1. Add new Hard Disk in your Virtual Media Manager:
    1. In the main window of the VirtualBox select: File → Virtual Media Manager…
    2. In the Virtual Media Manager window select: Actions → Add…
      • If you already have registered Hard Disk with the same UUID, you must remove them first.
  2. Create new virtual machine using downloaded VBHD:
    1. In the main window of the VirtualBox select: Machine → New…
    2. Click Next>
    3. On the VM name and OS type tab, type Name of the machine and choose OS Type:
      1. Operating system: Linux
      2. Version: Debian
    4. Click Next>
    5. Set the Base Memory Size according to your preferences.
    6. Click Next>
    7. Define Virtual Hard Disk:
      1. Select Boot Hard Disk box.
      2. Select Use existing hard disk option.
      3. From the list choose disk defined in 1.II
    8. Click Next> and then Finish.
  3. In the list of virtual machines, in the main VirtualBox window, a new virtual machine named like in 2.III should appear.

3 Running virtual system (for VB v. 3.2.10)

The donwloaded VBHD contains Debian OS. In order to run system:

  1. Select appropriate Virtual Machine in the main window.
  2. Select Machine → Start…
  3. Now the system is starting.
  4. When you will see an login screen, login as:
    1. User: hades
    2. Pass: hades

4 Running HaDEs tools

The HaDEs tool are already installed on the system. After when the system is started, you should see eight icons in the home directory:

  • varda - folder with varda application files.
  • hjed - folder with hjed application files.
  • hqed - folder with hqed application files.
  • heart - folder with heart application files.
  • run-varda - double click and then choose Run in Terminal button in order to start varda.
  • run-hjed - double click and then choose Run button in order to start hjed.
  • run-hqed - double click and then choose Run button in order to start hqed.
  • run-heart - double click and then choose Run in Terminal button in order to start heart.
